June 10, 2026: Digital Referrals & Orders is restarting. Planning is underway with a renewed focus on community and health authorities. More information will be available soon.

Creating one digital referrals and orders experience across BC

Supporting a more coordinated health care experience for patients, care teams and health system partners

The BC Digital Referrals & Orders (DRO) program will enable care teams to send, receive and track referrals, diagnostic orders, and special authority requests electronically across the health system.

This shift reduces reliance on fax and paper-based processes while improving timeliness, traceability and information quality.

By creating a connected provincial ecosystem for referrals and orders, DRO will help care teams coordinate care more effectively while giving patients greater visibility into their referrals and a more seamless care experience as they move through the health care system.

Introducing Digital Referrals & Orders across BC

DRO is being introduced across the province through a phased approach for both community primary care and specialist clinics, and health authorities.
  • Community clinics will be invited to onboard as rollout progresses by region, focusing initially on Vancouver Island.
  • Community clinics who previously began onboarding will be contacted to resume, focusing initially on Vancouver Island with the rest commencing in Fall 2026.
  • Community clinics in the Lower Mainland and Fraser, followed by Interior and Northern, will be onboarded in waves over the next several months.
  • Health authority planning is underway with BC Cancer,  Medical Imaging, Labs, and Primary Care partners, with detailed onboarding schedules to be confirmed. Early engagement and readiness work will begin over the next 12-24 months to support a coordinated provincial rollout. Learn more here.
Intake forms are accepted anytime, however if we are not yet working in your geographic area, you’ll be contacted when it’s your turn to onboard, with step-by-step guidance and support throughout the process.
